Working in Neighbourhoods Level 3 Pilots

Working in Neighbourhoods Level 3
Free Places on the Pilots

As part of the development of our new Working in Neighbourhoods Level 3 programme, we are running two pilot courses here at First House in Stockport.

These courses will be just like the final versions of the programme but are run to help us polish the material before submitting it to the awarding body for accreditation. The final price for this course has not been set yet but it will definitely be hundreds of pounds per person. As this is the pilots though, we are offering all the places for free.

It is important that we try to fill all the places and that we get as wide a spectrum of participants and organisations involved as possible so we will be rationing out the places to ensure this. Places are limited so we would recommend that you contact us immediately if you would like to reserve one.

For more information on the programme, see below, or contact me on 0161 218 1480 or email me at christopher.hughes@stockport.gov.uk :

Who is it for?
This programme is aimed at community workers and active residents who have either completed the level 2 programme or are able to cope with the higher level of work the course requires.

Though this programme has been designed to be as accessible as possible, it does assume that the learners have a basic level of literacy and are able to complete tasks at level 3 such as research a subject, write an assignment and present their work to the group.

How does it work?
The programme requires the learner to complete five units. Three of the units are mandatory and are taught in the classroom and assessed through completion of a workbook.

The remaining two units are chosen from two banks of optional units, one from the Community Awareness bank and one from the Community Skills bank.

The optional units are completed in the learner's own time, one is assessed as a submitted assignment and one is assessed as a presentation to the group with supporting materials.

How is it delivered?
The course is delivered over five separate days with at least one week between each one:

Day 1 - Community Awareness:
Mandatory unit taught in the classroom and assessed through completion of the workbook

Day 2 - Community Skills:
Mandatory unit taught in the classroom and assessed through completion of the workbook

Day 3 - Tutorials:
Each learner will be scheduled a 30 minute tutorial where they will go through their work and discuss their progress, addressing any needs and making sure that the optional units are on track

Day 4 - Communication:
Mandatory unit taught in the classroom and assessed through completion of the workbook

Day 5 - Presentations and Assignment Submission:
Each learner will deliver a 15 minute presentation on one of their optional units and submit their assignment on the other optional unit

Why do this programme?
Successful completion of this programme will give you:
§ A nationally recognised qualification at level 3 (once accredited)
§ Formal recognition of your skills and knowledge in community working
§ A greater understanding of the communities you live/work in
§ A greater understanding of the skills necessary for effective neighbourhood working
§ An opportunity to share best practice and learn from other community workers/residents
